Hello Fellow Explorers,
How have you been intentionally shifting through these changing seasons? For me, my #fallintoautumn has been much more gentle this yearâŚa slower, delightful transition.
Along with these slower shifts, I decided to begin a new creative activity this month⌠learning to crochet.
I love knitting during the winter, and while weâre not quite there yet, Iâm totally up for creating some of my favorite childhood characters as crochet figurines. I might even stuff them full of catnip and gift them to my boys!
Itâs a small moment of creative mischief, a âwhat ifâ detour from the plan. Which leads me to a question for you...
Whatâs one small moment of âcreative mischiefâ youâve experienced recently?
đşď¸ The Explorerâs Log
Reflecting on this weekâs ârecklessâ theme took me back almost two decades ago, to a Christmas adventure in Berlin.
Before Google Maps, I would get up every morning and run 10k in a different direction from my hotel, with no plan.
Many have told me itâs wiser (and safer) to be planned. But I suppose thatâs where I feel most alive in my creative process. That feeling is something which:
Brings me joy,
Fuels my creative energy,
And creates space for me to wander and wonder.
By getting intentionally lost, I discovered new monuments, magical parks, and spectacular bridges I never would have found otherwise.
Could I have planned it?
Absolutely.
But my creative process is not always a rigid route.
Itâs messy.
Itâs reckless.
And itâs perfectly imperfectâŚ
just the way I love it.
âď¸ This Weekâs Creative System
This weekâs system is, fittingly, an anti-system: âThe âWhat If?â Detour.â
Itâs the conscious habit of allowing for, and even seeking out, detours from the plan. When we intentionally embrace spontaneity as a repeatable practice, we open the âDoor to Wonderâ with a sense of freedom and childlike playfulness.
Why not give one of these âWhat Ifâsâ a go this week?
đ¨ Say âyesâ to a random creative urge, like starting a drawing with the âwrongâ tool.
đ§ Trust your gut. The plan may say X, but if youâre feeling more like Y today, go with it.
đ Indulge in something new, like an extra movie night or accepting a friendâs invite to a pizza-making class.
What would you add to the list of âWhat Ifâsâ?
Let me know in the comments below.

đ The Wonder Shelf
My husband gifted me a Disney âTim Burtonâs The Nightmare Before Christmas Colouring Bookâ, a moment of pure serendipity this week. It leans beautifully into the slower, gentle autumnal shifts.
Coloring is a creative, mindful practice, but this particular book also sparks memory recall of a favorite childhood movie, blending nostalgia with presenceâŚsuch a wonderful example of creative mischief!
đĽ Audio Sparks
In âThe Real Art of the Newsletter,â Austin Kleon and Sarah Fay had a powerful conversation about newsletters. I loved the passion and the tangible takeaways for new writers.
If youâve been thinking about starting your own publication, maybe this is your invitation to take a spontaneous, creative leap this quarter?
đŚ The Connection Spotlight
A huge shoutout to Alix Klingenberg, founder of the âEarth & Verseâ space, where I was gifted a monthâs subscription. Given that last Thursday was National Poetry Day, here in the UK, it was lovely to dive back-in. Thank you, Alix!
In her community, I wrote this short poem, which was my first creative leap into fall:
Welcome Autumn đ
Warm us with your cozy colors,
delight us with wondrous encounters which spark our curiosity,
and leave us the space we need to fall-into-autumn gently through creative purpose.
đ The Creative Threshold
What is the biggest fear that holds you back from starting something new? For me, itâs the fear of the new thing not being âgood enoughâ.
One small tactic thatâs been helping me this year is public accountability. Sharing the dates and times for our events here with you, means that regardless of whether I feel âreadyâ or not, the publish button gets clicked. Deadlines, which may sometimes seem stressful, can also be delightful moments of bravery.
𤍠SPOILER ALERT!!!
Iâm dreaming up our first big community reading experience for 2026! In our spirit of co-creation, Iâd love for you to help me shape whatâs next.
